JUST CONFIRMING WHAT WE ALL ALREADY KNOW:

UMBRELLA INSURANCE: Umbrella insurance is boring until it saves your family. We regularly meet couples with coverage ranging from $0 to $1 million. Having seen what we’ve seen, that’s reckless. Umbrella insurance typically costs $150 to $300 per million in coverage. That’s pennies to protect your dollars. Adequate coverage depends on your net worth. Here are a few common risk triggers:

  • Kids
  • Pools, hot tubs, trampolines
  • Pets
  • Hosting events, fundraisers, and playdates
  • Owning vacation rentals or STRs
  • Storing firearms or heavy equipment
  • Teen drivers, adult kids (still) on your car insurance
  • Hiring contractors
  • Being easily found online with seniority or a notable job title

The point is preparation. Protect what you’ve built and the people you love. We don’t sell liability insurance, but I do know a few people who do it well. Let us know if you need an introduction.

DO PAYROLL REPORTS MATTER?: Yes. The short and oversimplified version—if Americans have jobs and growing wages, they spend. Their spending drives GDP.

TAX REFUNDS: A tax refund is not “extra money.” If you receive a refund, it’s likely because you over-withheld and gave the government an interest-free loan for the year. If your withholding was accurate and you had that money instead, you could have made money with it by, say, putting it in a savings account or investing in the stock market. As needed, edit your withholding with the help of your CPA or tax preparer.

WHERE ARE THE MARKETS HEADED?: Two charts with different expectations.

**S&P 500: The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index is a market?capitalization?weighted index of 500 large?cap U.S. companies; it is unmanaged and not available for direct investment. TAX PLANNING: There are strategies to reduce your annual and lifetime tax bill. It starts with communication. Let’s start the conversation for your 2026.

“WE HAVE ENOUGH”: How might we pursue more honest conversations about work, relationships, and wealth? This was helpful. Watch here.
